University

In general, university and mature students need assistance in organising their work: to many people the increase in the level and intensity of the work the have to do at university comes as a shock. Whereas at A level one has to complete 2 or 3 A level subjects in 2 years, suddenly at university the pace changes to the extent where one has to do 10 modules in year one, 8 in years two and three, plus a dissertation. This could be the equivalent of 5 A levels in a term. It requires intense work and good organisational skills, plus an understanding of the profoundly bureaucratic nature of universities which is not to everyone’s taste.

Subsequently university and students need an individual plan of study and generally need to “talk things through” and get a bigger picture of what they’re doing. Usually two or three sessions meets their needs.
